As the Deputy Executive Director of Generations United, Jaia oversees Generations United’s public policy efforts and the National Center on Grandfamilies, a leading voice for families where grandparents and other relatives are raising children. She is a trusted voice on Capitol Hill on issues related to grandfamilies, kinship care and intergenerational cohesion. She has testified before the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging and served as cochair of the federal Advisory Council to Support Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. Lent has been named one of the Top 50 Influencers in Aging by Next Avenue. She is a nationally recognized speaker and columnist and respected media resource. Under her leadership, legislation has passed to promote intergenerational programming and support for grandfamilies in areas ranging from housing to child welfare. Lent holds an MSW from Syracuse University.
