Sarah L. Smalls is a grandmother raising her three grandchildren, who are now young adults. She is the kinship family consultant for Formed Families Forward, a Virginia nonprofit offering resources to foster, adoptive, and kinship families whose children have special educational needs. She has worked in the kinship arena for the last 15 years and has represented grandparents raising grandchildren on various state and local committees, task forces, and workgroups, in addition to the Federal Advisory Council Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. Sarah is a charter member and Vice President of FACES of Virginia Families and served as their vice president of kinship for over five years. She is a Generations United GRAND Voice, making her part of a national group of grandparents and other relative caregivers who inform policies and practices and provide guidance and feedback on Generations United’s resources and advocacy. Sarah also serves on the management committee of Generations United’s Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network: A Technical Assistance Center.
