Sarah L. Smalls is a grandmother raising her three grandchildren, who are now young adults. She is the Kinship Family consultant for Formed Families Forward, a Virginia nonprofit offering resources to foster, adoptive and kinship families whose children have special educational needs. She has worked in the kinship arena for the last 15 years and has represented grandparents raising children on various state and local committees, task forces and workgroups. Sarah is the founder of FACES of Virginia Families and served as their V.P. of Kinship for over five years. She is s a Generations United GRAND Voice and part of a Network of grandparents and other relative caregivers that inform policies and practices and provide guidance and feedback on Generations United’s resources and advocacy. In 2020, Sarah was appointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to the National Federal Task Force representing Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.
