Starting a Kin Caregiver Support Service: Learning Community Insights Overview

The Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network and its parters at USAging worked together to hold a five-session learning community for Aging Network organizations. The learning community sought to:
Bring together professionals who were interested in starting a kin caregiver support service so that they could learn and support each other in a structured, collaborative environment
- Impart information about kinship/grandfamilies, programming options, and the program development process
- Provide instruction to assist participants in conducting some of the initial work required to start a kin caregiver support service
After the conclusion of the learning community, we prepared a toolkit to share the learning more widely, including with agencies and organizations that are outside the Aging Network. Please click the links below to access and/or download the toolkit.
- Topic 1: Getting to Know Kin Caregivers & Involving Them in Program Development
- Topic 2: Assessing Community Needs
- Topic 3: Kin Caregiver Service Needs
- Topic 4: Root Cause Analysis, Change Theory, and Logic Models
- Topic 5: Leveraging Partnerships to Better Support Kin Caregivers
Additionally, we have prepared two supplemental documents that profile programs that are addressing common challenges:
- Lessons from the Field: Leveraging Partnerships to Address Staff and Infrastructure Needs and Extend Reach
- Lessons from the Field: Overcoming Transportation Barriers in Supporting Kinship/Grandfamilies
