Hector Vargas, JD, is the Acting Chief National Initiatives Officer at SAGE, the world’s oldest and largest organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ elders. At SAGE, Vargas leads the organization’s partnership-based, field-building National Initiatives, including the teams who lead and manage the National LGBTQ Elder Housing Initiative, the National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging, the SAGE-HRCF Long-Term Care Equality Index, SAGECollab and the SAGE Center of Excellence and Equity Innovation Lab. Prior to joining SAGE, Vargas served as Executive Director of GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ Equality (formerly known as the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association) and was a leading voice on LGBTQ health equity. He served on President Obama’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and has more than 30 years of LGBTQ and civil rights advocacy experience.
